Why people like them
A USB socket gives you two normal plug sockets plus built-in USB ports, so you can charge a phone and still plug in a lamp. They're tidier, free up outlets and mean fewer adaptors lying around.
USB-A, USB-C and charging speed
Older USB-A ports are fine for slower charging. Many newer phones, tablets and some laptops use USB-C, which can deliver more power. If you want fast charging, look for USB-C ports with a stated output that matches your devices. Cheap sockets with low outputs can charge painfully slowly.

Quality and safety
Buy from reputable manufacturers and let an electrician fit them. USB sockets contain electronics and some need a deeper back box. Very cheap, unbranded products can be poorly made.
